Island Hopping Around Okinawa

Itinerary Summary

Day 1 – Depart from (Osaka, Fukuoka, or Tokyo)

From your departure city, take a domestic flight to Naha on the main island of Okinawa.

After check-in, explore Naha on your own. One stop you don’t want to miss is the Okinawa Peace Memorial Museum. The memorial is located on top of a hill in South Naha, where the Battle of Okinawa was fought and ended during WWII.

For lunch, stop at Makishi Food Market or join a cooking class and make your own Okinawan culinary dishes.

In the afternoon, hop onto the City-Bus Loop Line and visit the other main spots of the city such as the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. It is one of the biggest aquariums in the world that provides a rare exhibit of whale sharks and manta rays.

Day 3 – Transfer from Naha to Ishigaki Island

Day 4 – Day trip to Taketomi Island

We highly recommend a water buffalo carriage tour. While there’s nothing speedy about it, this peaceful ride will allow you to enjoy the landscape and natural beauty of Okinawa.

During the 15-min trip across the lagoon, you’ll usually be serenaded by the driver playing his sanshin (three-stringed guitar-like instrument). Once on the island, tour the tropical rainforest replete with over 40,000 palm trees, striking bougainvillea flowers and the butterfly garden.
